Question 1

Who regulates medical waste in Georgia?

Accepted Answer

The Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD), part of the Department of Natural Resources, regulates biomedical waste under Rule 391-3-4-.15, "Biomedical Waste," in Georgia's Rules for Solid Waste Management. OSHA covers workplace exposure to bloodborne pathogens, and the U.S. DOT regulates packaging and transport.

Question 2

Does a small Georgia clinic still have to follow the rules?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Under Rule 391-3-4-.15, facilities generating less than 100 pounds of biomedical waste a month are partially exempt, but they still must contain, label and properly dispose of it. EnviCare sizes pickup frequency to small volumes.

Question 3

What counts as regulated medical waste in Georgia?

Accepted Answer

Regulated medical waste generally means items soaked or caked with blood or body fluids, cultures and stocks, pathological waste and used sharps. Georgia EPD rules set the exact definition in Georgia, and OSHA's Bloodborne Pathogens Standard covers how staff handle it.

Question 4

How often should a Georgia medical office have waste picked up?

Accepted Answer

It depends on volume and state storage rules. EnviCare picks up weekly, every other week, monthly or on call, and sets frequency so Georgia facilities stay within Georgia requirements. Every pickup gets a 24-hour email reminder.

Question 5

What is the difference between biohazard and pharmaceutical waste?

Accepted Answer

Biohazard waste is material that may carry infectious agents, like blood-soaked items and used sharps. Pharmaceutical waste is unused or expired medication. They are packaged and treated differently, and EnviCare handles both on one account.

Question 6

Is EnviCare's document shredding certified?

Accepted Answer

Yes. EnviCare is NAID AAA certified, and every shredding job comes with a certificate of destruction. We also handle large paper purges and cleanouts.

Question 7

Who can sign a medical waste manifest?

Accepted Answer

Federal rules (49 CFR 172.704) require DOT medical waste training before an employee signs a medical waste manifest. EnviCare's online training includes it.

Question 8

Can one company handle Georgia and other states?

Accepted Answer

Yes. EnviCare serves seven Southeast states statewide plus North Florida, with one Client Care Team.
