Question 1

Who regulates medical waste in North Florida?

Accepted Answer

The Florida Department of Health regulates biomedical waste under section 381.0098, Florida Statutes, and Chapter 64E-16, Florida Administrative Code, with county health departments carrying out inspections. OSHA and the U.S. DOT also apply.

Question 2

How long can a North Florida office store biomedical waste?

Accepted Answer

No more than 30 days at the generating facility under Chapter 64E-16. The clock starts when the first non-sharps item goes into a red bag or a sharps-only container is sealed. EnviCare sets pickup frequency to stay inside that limit.

Question 3

What counts as regulated medical waste in North Florida?

Accepted Answer

Regulated medical waste generally means items soaked or caked with blood or body fluids, cultures and stocks, pathological waste and used sharps. Florida DOH rules set the exact definition in North Florida, and OSHA's Bloodborne Pathogens Standard covers how staff handle it.

Question 4

How often should a North Florida medical office have waste picked up?

Accepted Answer

It depends on volume and state storage rules. EnviCare picks up weekly, every other week, monthly or on call, and sets frequency so North Florida facilities stay within North Florida requirements. Every pickup gets a 24-hour email reminder.

Question 5

What is the difference between biohazard and pharmaceutical waste?

Accepted Answer

Biohazard waste is material that may carry infectious agents, like blood-soaked items and used sharps. Pharmaceutical waste is unused or expired medication. They are packaged and treated differently, and EnviCare handles both on one account.

Accepted Answer
