Question 1

Who regulates medical waste in Tennessee?

Accepted Answer

The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) regulates non-hazardous medical waste as a special waste under solid waste Rule Chapter 0400-11-01. OSHA and the U.S. DOT also apply.

Question 2

Does Tennessee require a medical waste manifest?

Accepted Answer

Tennessee's solid waste rules don't prescribe a manifest form for non-hazardous medical waste. EnviCare still provides an electronic manifest for every pickup, listing the package count, the treatment facility and the shipment date.

Question 3

What counts as regulated medical waste in Tennessee?

Accepted Answer

Regulated medical waste generally means items soaked or caked with blood or body fluids, cultures and stocks, pathological waste and used sharps. TDEC rules set the exact definition in Tennessee, and OSHA's Bloodborne Pathogens Standard covers how staff handle it.

Question 4

How often should a Tennessee medical office have waste picked up?

Accepted Answer

It depends on volume and state storage rules. EnviCare picks up weekly, every other week, monthly or on call, and sets frequency so Tennessee facilities stay within Tennessee requirements. Every pickup gets a 24-hour email reminder.

Question 5

What is the difference between biohazard and pharmaceutical waste?

Accepted Answer

Biohazard waste is material that may carry infectious agents, like blood-soaked items and used sharps. Pharmaceutical waste is unused or expired medication. They are packaged and treated differently, and EnviCare handles both on one account.

Question 6

Is EnviCare's document shredding certified?

Accepted Answer

Yes. EnviCare is NAID AAA certified, and every shredding job comes with a certificate of destruction. We also handle large paper purges and cleanouts.

Question 7

Who can sign a medical waste manifest?

Accepted Answer

Federal rules (49 CFR 172.704) require DOT medical waste training before an employee signs a medical waste manifest. EnviCare's online training includes it.

Question 8

Can one company handle Tennessee and other states?

Accepted Answer
