A Medical City on the Savannah River

Few Georgia cities are as defined by healthcare as Augusta:

  • Wellstar MCG Health Medical Center is the CSRA's academic medical center, partnered with the Medical College of Georgia, with a Level I trauma center.

  • Piedmont Augusta, formerly University Hospital, operates its main campus on Walton Way and the Summerville campus.

  • Doctors Hospital of Augusta is home to a nationally known burn center.

  • Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center serves veterans across the region from its Downtown and Uptown divisions.

That concentration of hospitals supports a much larger network of specialty practices, surgery centers, dialysis units, research and reference labs, dental offices, veterinary clinics, pharmacies and long-term care facilities, from downtown out to Evans, Martinez and Grovetown. Every one of them needs a compliant way to get regulated waste off-site.

What You Generate, and How We Handle It

  • Blood-contaminated supplies, PPE, cultures, suction canisters: Regulated medical waste pickup on a set schedule

  • Needles, lancets, scalpels, broken glass: Sharps disposal through our reusable sharps program or disposable containers (also sold in the EnviCare shop)

  • Expired or unused non-hazardous medications: Pharmaceutical waste pickup, or pharmaceutical mail-back kits for low-volume sites

  • Empty chemo vials, IV bags, tubing and gowns: Trace chemotherapy waste containers and pickup

  • Patient charts, billing records, old files: NAID AAA certified document shredding, large paper purges and document storage

  • Retired computers, servers and hard drives: E-waste recycling and hard drive destruction (hole-punched, with a certificate of destruction)

  • Annual OSHA and HIPAA training obligations: Online compliance training for Bloodborne Pathogens, Hazard Communication and HIPAA

Most Augusta clients bundle several of these on one account. For big one-time jobs, like a practice relocation or a records room that hasn't been purged in a decade, we can send tractor-trailer capacity instead of a route truck.

Serving the CSRA: Georgia and South Carolina

The Augusta market doesn't stop at the state line, and neither do we. EnviCare serves South Carolina statewide, so a practice group with offices in Augusta, North Augusta and Aiken can keep every location with one provider. Our Augusta-area coverage includes:

  • Richmond County: Augusta and Hephzibah

  • Columbia County: Evans, Martinez, Grovetown and Appling

  • Burke County: Waynesboro

  • McDuffie County: Thomson

  • Jefferson County: Louisville and Wrens

  • Lincoln and Warren counties

  • South Carolina: Aiken, North Augusta and Edgefield County

The Georgia Rule That Applies

In Georgia, biomedical waste falls under Georgia EPD Rule 391-3-4-.15. The rule applies even to small offices: facilities that generate under 100 pounds a month are only partially exempt and still must segregate, contain and label waste correctly and hand it only to an authorized collector. Read our summary on the Georgia medical waste services page. South Carolina locations follow South Carolina's rules. (This is general information, not legal advice.)

Augusta Medical Waste FAQ

Can you handle a large one-time cleanout?

Yes. For practice relocations, closures and records rooms that need a full purge, EnviCare can send tractor-trailer capacity. Paper goes through our NAID AAA certified document destruction, and regulated medical waste is picked up and documented.

Can you serve our Aiken or North Augusta office too?

Yes. South Carolina is a full-service state for EnviCare, so Georgia and South Carolina sites can share one account.

We're a small practice. Is it worth having a service?

Georgia's rule still applies to small generators, and we size pickup frequency to your volume. Many small offices choose monthly or on-call pickup, and pharmaceutical mail-back is an option if you only have occasional medications to destroy.

Do you shred documents as well as pick up medical waste?

Yes. EnviCare is NAID AAA certified for paper document destruction. We provide scheduled shredding, one-time purges and secure document storage alongside your medical waste service.
