Healthcare in Columbus serves two states. Patients come from across the Chattahoochee Valley, from Harris County to Phenix City and the communities around Fort Benning, and the clinics that treat them sit on both sides of the river. EnviCare serves both sides too. We're a Southeast medical waste company based at our Cartersville CareCenter, about 150 miles north, and we cover Georgia and Alabama statewide. A Columbus practice with an Alabama satellite office can use one provider for both.

Healthcare in the Chattahoochee Valley
Two systems anchor medical care in Columbus:
-
Piedmont Columbus Regional operates the Midtown campus on Center Street, the largest hospital in west Georgia and east Alabama, plus a Northside campus. The Midtown campus is home to the John B. Amos Cancer Center.
-
St. Francis-Emory Healthcare on Manchester Expressway provides emergency, cardiac, orthopedic, cancer and women's services.
Beyond the hospitals, Columbus has a deep bench of outpatient care: primary care and specialty groups, surgery centers, imaging and dialysis centers, dental and orthodontic practices, veterinary clinics, labs, pharmacies, and nursing and assisted-living communities. They're spread across Muscogee County and out into Harris County's growing suburbs.
Oncology and Trace Chemotherapy Waste
With a major cancer center in town and infusion services across the region, trace chemotherapy waste is a real waste stream in Columbus. It isn't limited to hospitals. It includes the empty vials, IV bags, tubing, gloves and gowns left over from preparing and giving chemotherapy, and it needs to be kept separate from ordinary red-bag waste.
EnviCare provides yellow trace-chemo containers and picks them up alongside your other regulated waste. That covers infusion suites, oncology practices, and the pharmacies that prepare these drugs. Your staff gets clear segregation, and you get one pickup and one record.
Everything Else on One Account
Most Columbus clients use EnviCare for more than one service:
-
Regulated medical waste - scheduled pickup of biohazardous waste, sized to your volume.
-
Sharps disposal - our reusable sharps program or disposable containers. Containers and red bags are also available in the EnviCare shop.
-
Pharmaceutical waste - non-hazardous pharmaceutical pickup, plus pharmaceutical mail-back kits for offices that only occasionally need to destroy medications.
-
NAID AAA certified document destruction - paper shredding on a schedule or as a one-time purge, plus secure document storage.
-
E-waste recycling and hard drive destruction, with a certificate of destruction for every drive.
-
OSHA and HIPAA compliance training for your staff, online.
For large jobs, such as clearing a records warehouse or decommissioning an old clinic, EnviCare can dispatch tractor-trailer capacity.
Across the River in Alabama
Alabama is a statewide service area for EnviCare, just like Georgia. Practices, dental groups and home health agencies with offices in Phenix City, Smiths Station, Opelika or Auburn can put those locations on the same account as their Columbus sites. Each location is handled under its own state's rules, and you still have one point of contact.

Georgia Rules in Brief
Your Georgia locations fall under Georgia EPD Rule 391-3-4-.15, the state's biomedical waste rule. The rule lists chemotherapy waste as a biomedical waste category, along with sharps, cultures and pathological waste, and requires it to be segregated, properly contained and transferred only to an authorized collector. Our Georgia medical waste services page has a fuller summary. (This is general information, not legal advice.)
Columbus Medical Waste FAQ
Do you pick up trace chemo waste separately from red-bag waste?
Trace chemo goes in its own yellow containers, but we can collect it on the same visit as your other regulated medical waste.
Can you serve our Phenix City office?
Yes. We serve Alabama statewide, so Phenix City and other east Alabama locations can be on the same account as your Columbus sites.
Where is EnviCare based?
Our headquarters and plant are at the Cartersville CareCenter in Bartow County. Columbus is served through our statewide Georgia routes.
Can we mail in used sharps?
No. Sharps are collected through scheduled pickup, either with our reusable sharps program or with disposable containers. Our mail-back service is for pharmaceuticals only.
