Every Georgia office throws away paper with someone's private information on it: patient charts, bank statements, payroll records, tax forms, case files. EnviCare provides NAID AAA certified document shredding statewide across Georgia, with a certificate of destruction for every job. We're a large regional Southeast company headquartered at our CareCenter in Cartersville, with local CareExchanges in Augusta and Thomasville, and our fleet runs from route trucks to tractor trailers for the biggest cleanouts.

Why Secure Document Shredding Matters
A recycling bin or dumpster isn't a disposal plan. Discarded records are an easy target for identity theft, and federal and Georgia law put the duty on the business that created or holds the records. If a box of patient files or loan applications ends up in the wrong hands, "we threw it away" isn't a defense.
Shredding with a certified vendor solves three problems at once. The paper is destroyed so it can't be read or reconstructed, you get a written record that it was destroyed, and you can show an auditor, examiner or inspector that you chose a vendor whose security is independently checked.
Document Shredding Services in Georgia
-
Scheduled shredding - Locked containers stay in your office, and we empty them on a regular schedule. Choose 96-gallon or 64-gallon bins, or 36-inch executive consoles that fit in a front office.
-
One-time purges - Clearing out a records room, closing or merging a practice, or catching up after a retention review? We handle one-time purges of any size, including large paper purges of banker boxes and stored files. Tractor-trailer capacity means even the biggest cleanouts can move in one trip.
-
Off-site shredding - Your documents are collected in secured containers and shredded off-site, as described on our main document destruction page.
-
Documented hard drive destruction - Hard drives and other data-bearing devices are physically destroyed and documented with a certificate of destruction.
-
E-waste recycling - Retired computers, monitors and other IT equipment can be picked up anywhere in Georgia or dropped off at our Cartersville plant between 8 AM and 5 PM.
-
Secure document storage - Records you still need to keep can go into EnviCare's secure document storage, available across all the states we serve.
NAID AAA Certification and Chain of Custody
EnviCare is NAID AAA certified for document destruction. NAID AAA Certification, run by the industry association i-SIGMA, verifies a destruction company's security through scheduled and unannounced audits. Auditors check that confidential material stays secure through every stage, including handling, transport, storage before destruction and the destruction itself, and that employees with access to it have passed background screening.
For you, that means:
-
Secured containers from your office to the point of destruction
-
Background-screened staff handling your material
-
A certificate of destruction for every job, so you have a dated record for your files
-
An independently audited vendor, which is the kind of due diligence the FTC's Disposal Rule describes
NAID AAA certification covers EnviCare's document destruction. Hard drives are handled through our documented hard drive destruction service.
Georgia and HIPAA Shredding Compliance
Several laws require businesses to destroy records properly. The ones that matter most for Georgia organizations are:
-
Georgia's records-disposal law, O.C.G.A. § 10-15-2. A business may not discard a record containing a customer's personal information unless it shreds the record, erases the personal information, modifies the record so the information is unreadable, or takes steps it reasonably believes will keep unauthorized people from accessing it until it's destroyed. The Georgia Attorney General can impose penalties of up to $500 per improperly discarded record, capped at $10,000 (O.C.G.A. § 10-15-6). The law's definition of "business" excludes GLBA-covered banks and financial institutions and HIPAA-covered hospitals licensed in Georgia, which follow federal disposal rules instead.
-
HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules. HHS says covered entities must apply reasonable safeguards to protected health information when disposing of it (45 CFR 164.530(c)) and may not leave it in dumpsters or other containers the public can access. HHS lists shredding, burning, pulping or pulverizing paper records "so that PHI is rendered essentially unreadable, indecipherable, and otherwise cannot be reconstructed." The Security Rule also requires policies for disposing of electronic PHI and the media it's stored on (45 CFR 164.310(d)(2)(i)–(ii)).
-
FACTA Disposal Rule, 16 CFR Part 682. Anyone who keeps consumer report information for a business purpose must take reasonable measures to protect it when disposing of it. The FTC's examples include shredding papers "so that the information cannot practicably be read or reconstructed," and hiring a record destruction company after due diligence, such as requiring certification by a recognized trade association.
-
GLBA Safeguards Rule, 16 CFR 314.4(c)(6). Financial institutions under FTC jurisdiction must have procedures to securely dispose of customer information, generally no later than two years after it was last used to serve the customer, unless they have a legitimate reason or legal duty to keep it.
