Raleigh anchors the Triangle, one of North Carolina's major medical centers alongside Durham, Cary and Chapel Hill, with hospitals, research and clinical labs and a dense network of practices. EnviCare serves North Carolina statewide and has a local CareExchange in Raleigh, so Triangle facilities are served by a nearby team on our regular routes. We're a large regional Southeast medical waste company headquartered at our CareCenter in Cartersville, Georgia, with a fleet that runs from route trucks to tractor trailers.

Who We Serve in Raleigh
• Hospitals and surgery centers need steady regulated medical waste and sharps pickups plus survey-ready documentation.
• Physician, specialty, urgent care and dental practices need pickup frequencies sized to their volume.
• Nursing homes and long-term care facilities can put pharmaceutical waste, sharps and regulated medical waste on one schedule.
Around them sit veterinary clinics, dialysis centers, labs, pharmacies, funeral homes, and tattoo and body art studios. Most generate regulated medical waste and need a collector who shows up on schedule and keeps the paperwork straight.
How Service Works
• Step 1: Tell us what you generate. Call or request a quote and describe your waste streams (biohazard, sharps, pharmaceuticals, trace chemo, paper records) and your rough volume.
• Step 2: Get the right containers. We set you up with biohazard boxes or reusable containers, reusable or disposable sharps containers, and pharmaceutical, trace-chemo and shredding containers as needed. You can also order supplies through the EnviCare shop.
• Step 3: Pick a schedule. Weekly, every other week, monthly or on call, based on how much you generate.
• Step 4: We collect and document. Drivers pick up sealed containers and record each pickup on an electronic manifest, so you have a chain of custody when an inspector asks.
• Step 5: Treatment and records. Your waste goes to a permitted treatment facility. Your manifests and certificates of destruction are available whenever you need them.

Have a hospital department, records center or multi-office group to clear out? EnviCare runs tractor trailers for large-volume jobs, not just route trucks.

North Carolina Compliance Note
In North Carolina, medical waste is regulated as solid waste by the NC Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), Division of Waste Management, Solid Waste Section, under G.S. 130A-309.26 and the Medical Waste Management rules at 15A NCAC 13B .1200. Microbiological waste must be treated before disposal, and pathological and trace chemotherapy waste must be incinerated or ozonated. Off-site treatment must happen at a DEQ-permitted facility.
Generators keep a three-year record of each off-site shipment (package count, transporter, treatment facility and shipment date); facilities generating under 50 pounds a month are exempt. EnviCare's electronic manifest for every pickup lists that information. Our North Carolina medical waste services page has a fuller summary. (This is general information, not legal advice.)
Raleigh Medical Waste FAQ
Do you have a local presence in Raleigh?
Yes. EnviCare has a local CareExchange in Raleigh, along with one in Charlotte, and serves North Carolina statewide.
Do North Carolina generators have to register with the state?
No. DEQ doesn't require medical waste generators or transporters to register with the Division. Generators are still responsible for packaging waste correctly, keeping shipment records and making sure regulated medical waste reaches a permitted treatment facility.
How long can we store medical waste on site?
North Carolina doesn't set a fixed on-site storage limit, but medical waste can't become putrescent or a nuisance, and putrescent waste must be treated or disposed of within three days. We set your pickup frequency to match your volume.
Can we mail in used sharps?
No. Sharps are collected through scheduled pickup, either with our reusable sharps program or with disposable containers. Our mail-back service is for pharmaceuticals only.
Where is EnviCare based?
Our headquarters and plant are at the Cartersville CareCenter in Bartow County, Georgia. Raleigh is served through our statewide North Carolina routes and our Raleigh CareExchange.
